Thailand Events Calendar – May 2017

Celebration is part of Thai culture. Thai people celebrate in many occasions all year round, from Songkran – the Thai New Year to Loy Kratong – the festival of lights, and each festival has its own reason and character like no one else. These festivals let visitors experience Thailand differently through numerous festive celebrations throughout the 12-month calendar.

1 May 2017
Elephant Buffet
Where: Nakhon Pathom
The festival features buffet feast for elephants.

4 – 8  May 2017
Top of The Gulf Regatta 2017
Where: Ocean Marina Yacht Club , Jomtien Beach , Chonburi
Top of the Gulf Regatta is an international boat racing which has the international standard from International Sailing Federation or ISAF. This competition also attracts various participants from various countries that sail Keel Boat and Multihulls, beach catamarans, dinghies, and Optimists.

5 – 6 May 2017
Samui Big Bike Week
Where: Central Festival Samui, Surat Thani
See a big bike parade from all over the country. Watch motorcycles contest and exhibition. Enjoy sightseeing around Samui island, live concert and attend environmental promotion activities.

5 – 7  May 2017
International Balloon Festival at Hatyai
Where: Jiranakorn Stadium, Hat Yai, Songkhla
Visitors can expect to see colorful hot-air balloons in different shapes from around the globe. They will also be given hot-air balloon rides to see Hatyai with a bird’s eye view. It also has concerts, parades, games, and food and beverage vendors at the festival.

5 – 7  May 2017
Sea Mud Festival
Where: A yard in front Bang Tabun Municipal District Office, Phetchaburi
Enjoy fresh seafood, listen to music, watch live performance on stage, shop OTOP and seafood products and observe the local fisherman’s way of life such as shell hunting using flat board and pay respect to the Buddha.

8 – 9 May 2017
Elephant Ordination Festival
Where: Elephant Study Centre at Ban Ta Klang in Tha Tum District, Surin
Witness an ordination parade with over a hundred of elephants from Chang Swang Temple. Attend the ritual to make an apology to sacred entitiess and watch cultural performances.

10 May 2017
Visakha Puja Festival
Where: Phutthamonthon, Phutthamonthon District, Nakhon Pathom
Pay respect to Buddha relics, visit the exhibition about the story of Buddha and join circumambulation ceremony at the principle Buddha image.

10 – 14 May 2017
Visakha Puja FestivalSakon Nakhon Visakha Puja Festival 2017
Where: Wat Pa Sutthawat and Wat Phra That Choeng Chum, Sakon Nakhon
See the Buapuja Lantern parade and visit Visakha Puja exhibition. Join in praying ceremony, meditation, circumambulation. There are also a running race and a trip to leran Dhamma and pay respect to the respected monks in Sakon Nakhon.

13 – 14 May 2017
Yasothon Rocket Festival 2017
Where: Phaya Than Public Park and Yasothon municipal district office
See Rocket carriages parade at Chaeng Sanit Road in front of Yasothon Administrative Office. Enjoy folk dancing contest, cheering contest and beauty contest in Yasothon Rocket Festival.

17 – 18 May 2017
Atthami Puja Festival
Where: Wat Mai Su Khon Tharam, Nakhon Chai Si District, Nakhon Pathom
The festival features the cremation ceremony of Buddha.

20 – 27 May 2017
Samui Regatta 2017
Where: Chaweng Beach, Bo Phut,  Ko Samui, Surat Thani
Attend International Sailboat Race with over 25 participating boats. The event targets Asian and Australian markets.

27 May 2017
River Kwai Trophy 2017
Where: Felix River Kwai Resort, Kanchanaburi
Join the Triathlon Contest (Running, Cycling and Swimming) at The Bridge of the River Kwai.
