Thailand Events Calendar – September 2017
September is the month of some great festivals and celebrations in Thailand; Pichit Traditional Longboat Racing, Samui Festival, Phitsanulok Traditional Longboat Racing for Royal Trophy 2017 and many more. These festivals let visitors experience Thailand differently through numerous festive celebrations in September and throughout the 12-month calendar.

Pichit Traditional Longboat Racing for His Majesty the King Trophy 2017
Where : Wat Kaen Chan Charoen, Samut Songkhram
The event includes a traditional longboat racing (the first in Thailand), boat parade contest. Witness the amazing imitation of the Royal Barge Procession. There will be shops selling food and OTOP products. Enjoy concerts and performances throughout the festival.

Honey Alms Giving Ceremony
Where : King Rama 5 Monument plaza,Trang
Have a taste of Trang’s specialty roasted pork and cake. Watch fancy parade, contest music and onstage shows.
7- 11 September 2017
Samui Festival 2017
Where : Koh Samui, Surat Thani.
Surat Thani Province pleases to present “2nd Samui Festival”, 120th anniversary of Koh Samui. Cycling Marathon around Koh Samui, Samui Fight, OTOP products shopping, eating local food, free 2.5 km buffet dinner, live concert, and local art performance. All of these to generate income for the local people and raise funds for the construction of Bhavana Bodhigun Vocational College.

Mueang Nakhon Tenth Lunar Month Festival
Where : Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Park (84) Thung Tha Lat, Nakhon Si Thammarat City Hall, Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Witness the famous Ching Pret Ceremony in which the locals offer their products to the spirits of their ancestors. Watch Tray of food parade and Tray of food contest. Take a walk in the Vintage Market. Enjoy traditional local performances and Miss Nakhon Si Thammarat contest.

Phraya Krai Phakdi Memorial Fair, San Don Ta Festival and Worshipping City Pillar
Where : The field in front of Khukhan municipal office, Si Sa Ket
Be part of the sacred ritual of paying respect to Khukhan City Pillar shrine, paying homage to household deity and Phraya Krai Phakdi Si Nakhon Lamduan (Ta kacha). Watch the ritual of respectfully invite spirits of Khukhan ancestors, offerings contest, Khukhan Banana contest, Kao Tom Mud contest and local parade contest. Enjoy the neatly decorated parade of June Don Ta and San Don Ta, including local cultural performances. There will be shops selling high-quality Pisang Awak bananas and other kinds of bananas in Si Sa Ket province.

Phitsanulok Traditional Longboat Racing for Royal Trophy 2017
Where : Nan River in front of Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat Wora Mahawihan, Mueang District, Phitsanulok
Witness the traditional Buddhism ritual of making an off-season offering of robes and other needs to monks. Watch a lively cheering squad contest for Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Trophy. The Longboat race is divided into 5 categories; large boats, medium boats, small boats, mini boats and a race to strengthen unity in the community.

Narathiwat Specialty Fair 2017 and Kor-lae boat, Longboat, and Yor-kong boat Race for Royal Trophy 2017
Where : The Pavillion Commemorating the 50th anniversary of King Bhumibol’s reign, next to Tha Prayasai Dam, Mueang, Narathiwat
Witness Kor-lae boat, longboat, Yor-kong boat Race for Royal Trophy. Enjoy a special event held by Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty the Queen, including an exhibition about the foundation and its products. Watch the impressive process of carving imitated Kor-lae boat.

Annual Shrine Merit Making by the Sea Ceremony 2017
Where : Thapthim Thong Shrine, Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan
This is Hua Hin’s biggest merit making by the sea ceremony. The participant will write the deceased’s name on a stucco doll, place it in a boat and sink the boat into Hua Hin sea.

Nakhon Phanom Illuminated Boat and Red Cross Fair 2017
Where : Along the Mekong River, Sunthon Vichit Road and Nakhon Phanom City Hall
Watch a magnificent parade of illuminated boats over Mekong River. Join in dinner and ancient ceremony of illuminated boats to pay respect to Buddha, sacred deities, Naga and Mekong River at the night of the end of Buddhist Lent. Take a stroll through red cross fair, where there are booths selling various kinds of goods and local performances.

The Lotus Throwing Festival
Where : Khlong Samrong, in front of Wat Bang Phli Yai, Samut Prakan.
The Lotus Throwing Festival is a ceremony where thousands of local people line up by the banks of a canal to pay respect to Luang Poh To by throwing lotus flowers onto a boat carrying a replica of the Buddha image Luang Poh To.
